Gear transmission is one of the widely used transmissions in automobiles. The gear rack type steering structure of automobiles consists of a steering gear integrated with the steering shaft and a rack commonly integrated with the steering tie rod. Its fundamental structure is a pair of interlocking small gears and racks. When the steering shaft drives the small gear to rotate, the rack moves in a straight line. Sometimes, by using a rack to directly drive the tie rod, the steering wheel can be turned. The following are the main functions of automotive gear:

1. Variable speed: By meshing two gears of different sizes, the speed of the gears can be changed. For example, gearbox gears can reduce or increase the engine speed to meet the driving needs of the car;

2. Torque converter: Two gears of different sizes mesh, changing the speed of the gears while also changing the torque transmitted. For example, the gearbox of a car and the main reducer in the drive axle can both modify the torque of the car;

3. Direction change: Some car engines require a change in the direction of power transmission in order to drive the car, as the direction of power application is straight from the direction of the car's movement. This device is usually the main reducer and differential of a car.
